Previously called Combination Therapy Medical Supplies Limited, the company was incorporated in South Africa during 1998 and branded in 2003 to Africa Union Health. Initially, the company was a first in designing a long distance electronic management solution that brought together medical specialists, general practitioners and nurses in dispensing health care in a manner that enabled brain drain of African doctors to have a diminished impact since medical expertise was being accessed electronically from any part of the globe. This led to the first treatment and management of HIV/AIDS in South Africa using electronic integration, under the supervision of the late Dr Ruben Sher.

AUH is also engaged with our Egyptian pharmaceutical manufacturer to open a factory to make medicines in the areas of ointments, anti-infectives and other primary health medicines. Another venture in the offing is the manufacture of bandages, in the DRC.

The Chairman of our Egyptian partner and our own AUH Chairman have pledged two clinics for the DRC and a donation of Zinc and Vitamin A to address nutritional deficiencies in children.

The Hepatitis C elimination campaign is endorsed by WHO as effective and affordable.

DRC

AUH is partnering with La Marje as a representative management entity for ECC, a protestant church organization head quartered in Kinshasa. ECC has 45 million church members from several denominations. A large cardholder, ECC has 1080 healthcare facilities throughout the DRC needing repair and upgrade of services.

Funding, pharmaceuticals and medical aid are key areas for AUH.

With changes in healthcare, technology has become a welcomed addition to service delivery, data and information management. In alignment with these changes, our mother company has created a Technologies Division that serves to enhance AUH’s presence in the healthcare industry.

In the first quarter of this year Africa Union Health was awarded a tender for the provision of Telehealth services in Pediatric Cardio-Catheterization for a hospital in Lusaka, Zambia. This service will alleviate a backlog for patients who have up to now had to receive care in South Africa or other countries, at great expense to the Zambian government. AUH is partnering with the Cape Town based Children’s Hospital for demonstration and training offered by international teams of physicians and medical technologists.

BELARUS

An AUH team of pharmacists and physician visited Minsk to source pharmaceutical products. Products for the treatment of degenerative illness, feminine health and vitamins are in process of consideration for registration in two African countries.

AUH has been approached to facilitate entry into the Sub Sahara African in a WHO campaign to eliminate Hepatitis C, a disease challenging many countries worldwide. Processes of product registration are underway alongside the identification of Health experts interested in this area of medicine.
